Activity 1: Finding the Plot and the Big Ideas

    1. Discuss plot with students.
    2. Give everyone a copy of the plot mountain graphic organizer. As they listen to the Little Red Hen story (or other fable) ask them to fill in the plot mountain with their ideas. Then share what students came up with.
    3. Give students another plot mountain. Have them listen to the "Liars" story (located in part 2 of the manifesto). Have students fill out the plot mountain with their ideas and share.
    4. As a class discuss questions such as:
    -What did you notice about the way each of these stories is constructed?
    -How are they similar/different?
    -Do you think all stories are built this way?
    -What were the big ideas in each story?
