Graphic Organizer - categorizing awesome beginnings and endings
  • Created By Alec Patton
  • Description:
This is a graphic organizer that helps students look at types of beginnings and endings.

Note on format: I do all my work in Google Docs, and when I convert docs to Microsoft Word, the formatting gets weird. For this reason, I’ve included both the word doc and a link to the original Google Doc.
  • Purpose:
Students split into groups of four and look at lots of articles in order to fill these in. You can provide these articles by printing them out, supplying students with magazines and newspapers, or letting students look online. In their groups, students come up with names for categories and fill in examples.
Note on differentiation: some students will struggle to come up with categories for beginnings and endings. With this in mind, it might be a good idea to provide a set of pre-set "types" of beginnings and endings. You can do this and also provide space for students to add more "types".
