Project based learning

Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to a complex question, problem, or challenge. At DVIA, our students participate in anywhere from 3-6 teacher-created projects throughout the year to study their science and social studies material.

Socio-Emotional Curriculum

At DVIA, we believe that it is our responsibility to promote growth in our students beyond the typical school-related realm of academics. We embed many practices into our daily routines to help students grow socially and emotionally as well.

Family Facilitated Learning

At DVIA, students are on campus 2 days a week and work with their families 3 days a week. Due to our model, it is imperative that parents accept their role as educators and partner with teachers to create rigorous and engaging curriculum for their kids.

The Pilot

During the 2013-14 school year, our Core 3 teachers (3rd and 4th grade) piloted Activate with their students and parents. Details of the pilot are listed below in the Case Study. DVIA also created a video outlining the details of the pilot and how Activate is being used at DVIA.
